Haabet

In 1979, Per Kirkeby visited Læsø and immediately fell in love with the island. That same year, he bought a share of Haabet, driven by the wish to immerse himself in his artistic work during longer stays. In the late 1980s, the large studio at Haabet was built, giving him even more space for creation. Throughout his years on Læsø, Kirkeby also used the surrounding outdoor areas as part of his artistic practice, and today Prøvemarken still stands as a living testament, home to several of his distinctive brick sculptures.
