We recommend you research for materials well in advance of your arrival.
The island has two supermarkets and one hardware store. The hardware store offers a good range of basic materials and can order many items on short notice, but it is recommended to bring any specialised art supplies with you. Please note that Læsø is not connected to the mainland by a bridge, and some online shops do not deliver to the island.
Do not hesitate to contact us for questions.
-
The residency is offered to visual artists, but the artistic expression and choice of materials may vary.
-
We ask for professional references in case the jury needs them during the selection process.
We would like name, profession, email address, and phone number of your references, thank you.

Læsø AiR primarily focuses on individual artists due to the residency facilities. We are, however, very open to duos since communities are the primary objective of the residency programme.
A duo, however, will be considered as ‘one resident artist’. That means that the duo shares the residence facilities, the part of the studio, and bedroom. This also applies to the monthly fee, so only one of you will have your travelling expenses covered by the programme.

You will either stay at Per Kirkeby’s Haabet together with another artist or at Jorn’s Bangsbohave on your own. Both places are located in the countryside, surrounded by fields and forests. They are approximately 4 and 5 kilometres from the island’s main town, Byrum, and about 9 kilometres apart.
You will live on the same property where the studio is located.
-
At Bangsbohave, you will have your own private studio.
At Haabet, you will share a very spacious studio with another artist. Each of you will have your own entrance and a small workroom/office within the studio.
-
The Læsø AiR program invites two artists at a time, for a four-week and six-week (Nordic) or twelve-week (International) period.
Staying at Haabet resident artists have separate bedrooms but share kitchen, living room, and bathroom facilities. They also share the very large studio at Haabet, but have separat offices.
At Bangsbohave you live alone in the house and work alone.
-
Pets are not allowed out of consideration for the other artists and for the artist residences.
You may have visits from friends or family during your stay, by agreement with Læsø AiR and the other artist in residence. Artists on a 6-week residency may host visitors for up to 7 nights, while artists on a 12-week residency may host visitors for up to 14 nights.
A fee of DKK 200 per night is charged per visitor over the age of 15.

As a resident at Læsø AiR, we expect you to be able to work independently and reach out to the people and institutions on the Danish contemporary art scene that you want to contact by yourselves.
Therefore, you will not be part of a mentoring program during your residency, but we are of course happy to help you establish the necessary contacts.
However, we offer a local host programme, where you will be paired with a local host who will introduce you to life on a small Danish island, show you special places, and meet with you throughout your stay.

By Nordic artists we mean, that you should have a connection to one of the Nordic countries.
