Læsø AiR invites international artists to participate in a 12-week residency, while Nordic artists from Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, and Denmark are invited to take part in a 6-week and 4-week residency.

The residency offers artists the opportunity to develop new and meaningful relationships — both with each other and with the local community on Læsø — while experiencing the island’s unique nature and the legacy of two renowned artists, Per Kirkeby and Asger Jorn, who previously spent time here.

The program includes studio facilities and accommodation, as well as a travel grant and a monthly stipend.

The aim of Læsø AiR

The main objective of the Læsø AiR program is to support the development of the artistic process and research phase for professional visual artists by providing time, space, and opportunity to reflect and immerse themselves in the working process in the unique and inspiring environment of Læsø.

The residency offers both Nordic and international artists the opportunity to develop new and valuable relationships with fellow artists, the community on Læsø, the island’s unique nature, and the history of Per Kirkeby and Asger Jorn — all for the benefit of the regional art scene and Nordic contemporary art in general.

The residency program includes

A twelve-week residency at Læsø, Denmark for international artists

A four and six-week residency at Læsø, Denmark for Nordic artists

Studio facilities oozing history and artistic spirit.

Accommodation in an inspiring and creative environment.

Individually help to connect to the local community and to support artistic research and practice.

A monthly allowance of DKK 7,500/EUR 1,000 to cover living costs, transport and expenses for materials and production during the residency.

The resident artist is obliged to engage with the local community of Læsø, for example by giving an artist talk, participate in social events, and organize an open studio event.

Reporting and Expectations

As the residency aims to promote exchange and network development, we expect resident artists to be outward-looking and open-minded, for example by participating in artist talks, being active on social media, and engaging with the local community.

Evaluation of your stay is also part of the residency program.
